I can not believe that out of the bazillion pictures that i have in iPhoto not one of them is of my living room pre-renovation. I also can not believe that I didn't take a picture of it Monday before I started!!!
I did however, take some pictures along the way :)
My living room started out as a chocolate milk brown color. Very homey and cozy and perfect for what I was going for 4 years ago when I painted it :) The new color that I wanted is called "Cake Batter" I'm pretty sure that you can't go wrong with a paint called cake batter! It is like a really pretty beige I guess. I wanted something neutral so that as my style changes (as it does A LOT) I can just change the accent items as opposed to the whole room. Does that make sense??
Here are pictures during the priming stage...

And here it is after coat one of the cake batter :)

I pulled this ugly faux wood grid thing off of the sliding glass doors and i love it because it's such a pretty view. Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make that fireplace less of an eye sore?? I mean come on!!!
Also, here is a piece that I will be putting in my living room post-reno. I found this cute child sized rocking chair at a flea market in New Mexico. Love at first sight:

oooohhhh! and I made that pillow tonight during the storm :)
Here is a better look at the front:

and the back:

I love making pillows!! I still want to make one more, find a new (or used) neutral color couch, and make curtains. Those are my short-term goals for this weekend...
On a side note, I guest blogged over at Polka Dot Robot last week and today...check it out!
AND...only four more days left in the school year for me!! soooooo excited :)
have a great Wednesday night lovies.

  1. Oh I can't wait to see the rest of your casa!!!! So cute.. I love organizing stuff and moving furniture!

  2. That is the cutest little rocking chair!!! Love the pillow you made for it!!! You're just a busy little bee! Hope your last days of school go great for you!!! xoxo

  3. ooo you know what i did with our fireplace in our last home - i whitewashed the whole thing... but then it was too white so i water downed some brown paint - and i painted a few bricks (very randomly) turquoise and red. then the brown on top so it was muted... was super cute! :D
    looove the pillows!

  4. loving the changes! and that rocking chair with the pillow is great. Enjoy your last few days of school!

  5. the star wars embroidery: i printed out a picture of darth vadar and just drew the pattern on my fabric while I looked at the picture.

the ladies that love men that love star wars--we're a special group.

  6. It looks lovely so far...can't wait to see the end result!

You could paint the bricks or tile over them. I am sure you will come up with something lovely.

    The cushion is so pretty.

  7. What a gorgeous chair! You obviously have an 'eye' for spotting cute things at sales; I only find broken stuff, lol.

  8. Great color, it reminds me of my walls. :) And I love the little chair and your pillow. I was going to suggest you paint the bricks too. Now that's got me wanting to paint our bricks. Have fun with the last few days of school, I hope they go very fast.

  9. Just thought I'd let you know that you can paint your fireplace a solid colour - not just whitewash. You'd need to scrub first (to get rid of any loose bits) then apply a latex primer (ask your local hardware store.) Once that's done top coat with an acrylic latex and leave it for a few weeks to properly dry out. You should be able to get quite a wide range of colours. Yay!

I should get my own show :)

  10. Love the cake batter color!

You could always paint the brick on the fireplace.....I've seen that done.

  11. i always forget to take 'before' pictures... and usually 'during' pictures too... so at least you've got that :)
that pillow is lovely! i really need to make some fun-colored ones for my boring beige sofa
oh and i just LOVE that there is a paint color called cake batter!

  12. LOVE the chair! I cannot wait to see more pictures of your place J! It looks lovely! So far, so good!

  13. cute pillows!
    those colors are amazing :]
