Who is in the mood for a little DIY action?
This is such a simple DIY but it's also fun and cute and creative.
In no way am I claiming to be the inventor of the magazine bead (obviously).
I did however, decide that I wanted a necklace made out of them so I sat around and figured out a quick and cute little way to make them.
Are you ready :)
The materials that you will need are these:
* magazine/catalogue pages (I chose anthro and urban of course)
* scissors
* yarn needle
* and glue/mod podge
* The first things I did was cut may pages in half. I then cut long skinny triangles from each half. (see example) Easy peasy. I want to say that the triangles were about six inches long.
* Then, to make a bead, tightly roll one triangle (base to point) around your yarn needle, then glue down its tip. I just rubbed elemer's glue all over the bead.
* Slide your bead off of the needle and then make a million.
I chose to do mine in neutral colors but I think that bright, colorful beads would be lovely as well.
I'm still not sure what I am going to make with mine!! I'm thinking of making three different sized strands of these and then putting them together to make a layered necklace.
What do you think?

ReplyDeleteCool idea....I think the 3 layered necklace would be great!! Post a pic after you get it done!!!
ReplyDeleteI tried that once and it turned out so wrong, beads all messed up. But you explained it a little better, so I'll try your way! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this! I used to have a little bead spinner when I was a kid--this reminds me of those!
ReplyDeleteI used to make these all the time when i was younger! Good memories of very glue-y fingers aha x
