New Mom Style-Guest Blogger Malori

Hello everyone!!

I am THRILLED to be here posting while Janel spends time loving on her new baby :). Normally you can find me over at my blog, Sunday Morning Sugar, talking about food, fashion, and my life in Chicago. I'd love it if you stopped by and said hello!

When Janel asked me to write up a guest post for her I knew immediately that I wanted to do a little craft that all you mamas (and us ladies without babies) could appreciate.

I'm not a mom but I know that a new baby makes life pretty hectic. A portion of life that falls to the wayside with new babies is fashion but there are easy and functional outfits that will make anyone look like a million bucks. One such outfit is a simple pair of jeans, a plain top, and a cute scarf. I'm sure you all have some scarves on hand so you can use one you already have or go snag a new one because we're about to take it up a notch!

Let's get started.

You'll need:
-Fabric paint in your choice of color
-A scarf (I picked mine up at Nordstrom Rack for $10)
-A piece of cardstock or other heavy paper
-Exacto knife
-artists tape*

How to make the magic happen:
Star Scarf DIY
1) You'll have to decide what kind of design you want on your scarf. I work retail and a woman came into my job with this WONDERFUL scarf that had big stars on it so I decided to recreate it. I printed a picture of a star because I'm not great at drawing them and cut out my stencil using my exacto.

2) Working on a hard surface with something underneath your scarf in case the paint bleeds through, start stenciling your scarf. It's easier to work on a hard surface so that your stencil doesn't slip or move while you're painting.

3) Let it dry and ROCK IT!

Thanks so much for having me Janel and CONGRATS on your new baby :)!!

*the artists' tape is optional but I found that it really made the process a lot easier. Masking tape will work too!
