DIY: Color Palette Crib Mobile
Hello RWS readers! I’m Sherry and I blog over at Oh So Lovely. I just had my first baby in December of 2011 so I have been immersed in all things baby. My husband and I just barely completed the nursery in time for the arrival of our baby boy.
I knew from the get go that if we were having a boy his nursery would be a woodland animals theme. I started out with a color palette of bright colors and lots of owls, but then I realized that it was not what I was really wanting. So I continued to search all over the web and make mood boards until I was finally satisfied. I ended up with the same color palette, minus a couple.
I wanted my baby boy to have a colorful mobile to look at, but I also wanted it to match the theme of his nursery so I started out with this (link “this” to ) as my inspiration. I knew I was on a budget and couldn’t afford the one on etsy so I went a different direction and came up with this...
Here’s what you need to make your own:
-different shades/colors of card stock
-2” circle punch
-sewing machine
-2 branches (same size)
-clear jewelry wire
Step 1: First you’ll need to figure out how many circles you plan on having on your mobile. The longer you want it, the more circles you’ll be adding. Once you’ve figured out how many circles you need of each color you will start punching out 2” circles with your paper punch.
Step 3: Now that you have your rows figured out you are ready to sew them together. This part was a little bit uncomfortable at first until I got the hang of it. I was able to speed up the process once I got comfortable. You might practice on a few scrap pieces. All I did was lay down the first circle and start stitching it and as it reached the bottom of the circle I started to feed the next one, and the next, and so on.
And viola! A simple, unique crib mobile.
There are so many options for this kind of mobile, here are some I found through pinterest that I liked...

ReplyDeleteLove this. Been trying to figure out what to do with old greeting/birthday cards. Think I'll cut them into heart shapes and use fishing line to hang them from some branches! Then I'll have a lovely mobile for my home office. Wahoo~*
