Adam and I have made it a goal this summer to walk, as a family, every night that we can. These walks have quickly become our favorite time of the day.
We have started a tradition to where we pick up a rock every time we walk together. I have a huge antique jar that we are collecting these rocks in.
One of the rules is that we can't pick up the rock until the very last lap of our walk so that we HAVE to keep walking :) Adam made that rule up, he's a smart cookie.
I love this tradition and I LOVE the collection that is coming from it. I am learning that I want the things that decorate my home to be special and meaningful and this little collection is just that.
What have been some of your favorite traditions this summer?

I think this is a great idea! If I had a cool jar like yours I would totally do the same thing :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. We just got married and also have a little one on the way so we have plenty of memory making happening. In order to capture these little moments we started a memory jar on our wedding day. I haven't blogged about it yet, but the whole idea is that when we do something memorable together one of us writes the memory down on a square of paper along with the date. We plan on looking through this on each anniversary and compiling them into a little book for each year of our marriage and lives together.
ReplyDeleteI love this tradition - how cool! I might have to try something like it....
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome tradition! I love it!
ReplyDeleteSo far, we've tried to have a tradition of $1 Movie Club on Wednesdays with our five kids and my four nieces and then swimming on Fridays (pool or lake). We've had a couple weeks where it hasn't quite worked out because of VBS and/or the movie selling out, but for the most part, we've kept the routine and the kids love it because they have something to look forward to to keep the summer somewhat scheduled and much less boring!
you should write the dates on them! That would be SO cool! Then Amelia could look back one day and say "Mom & Dad picked up this rock on my birthday 2012!" or whatever the date may be. That would be really neat.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is just great! Such a cute idea.

I LOOOOOVE this idea, how cute and sweet that your hubby wants to do this and is so excited about it. The rocks are so cool also, love seeing them spread out like this.
ReplyDeleteOne tradition we just started was spreading a big blanket outside at night instead of watching tv the whole time. We played cards, hangman and talked on the first night. Our dog was thrilled and laying and rolling all over us. I am hoping to do this at least 3/4 times a week right before bedtime.
Thanks for sharing and inspiring us with this story, ENJOY those walks!!
Oh man these are so pretty! My boyfriend and I have turned Sunday into our weekly hiking day, and yesterday I brought home a rock from our little hike too. This is so cool that you get one each time!
ReplyDeleteWhat a super cute idea - love it!
