Reupholstery Phase II

Sunday, we worked on Phase II of our reupholstery adventure :)
We finished stripping the base of all of the fabric and stuffing until we had just the "skeleton" of the chair left over.
It was really really neat to see just the base of the chair, and where it's form comes from.  I am finding myself looking at the upholstered furniture all over my house to trying to visualize and guess what it's insides look like :)
Here are some photos from Phase II:

Yesterday, I went to JoAnns and picked up all of our fabric and supplies so that could start deconstruction the old fabrics into patterns for the new fabric.  (Maybe tonight)
I didn't go with a bold print since the shape of this chair was just SO mid century.  I wanted to stay true to the era so I used some of those swatches I found on the inside as inspiration.
This is the fabric that we chose:

It's very tweedy, and Sherlock Holmes-y.  It think it stays true to the vintage fabric but with a tiny modern twist to it.  I love it, and it's perfect!!  I will get my pops of color from accent pillows :)

The Baby List-1

I have had a lot of people ask me about baby showers and such, like when do you have one? when do you want one? etc.
We could have a baby tomorrow or we could have a baby in a year.
With adoption it is soooo up in the air when it comes to a timeline, especially now that we are adopting domestically.
Bottom Line...we will have a baby.
I'm pretty much faux-pregnant right now!
There are so many things that I buy because I need to be ready, any day.
My friends will say "don't buy that, you will get that at your shower!"
I keep buying everything though because if I get a baby tomorrow they will need to sleep somewhere, we will need to have a car seat to bring them home in, clothes to wear, bottles to drink from, etc.
Has anyone gone through this with an adoption before? What do you do?

Anyway, to the point of this post, I wanted to share with you  some of things that I have on my baby wish list.
I'm not registered anywhere because there isn't a shower in the works.
I have made my own little wish list on Amazon that I purchase things off of when I can afford them.  I am the kind of gal who wants to be READY!

I am going to do this in parts and today is part one :)
This is the list that I call "the fun things" list. These are the not so practical items that we want but don't really need at the moment :)
Here you go!

1.  Sonatina Bird Rattle , Suzette the Fox , Fruit and Veggie Rattles
2. Sophie the Giraffe teether
3.  cute little floral pig
4.  Plan Toys Stacking Tree, Kid-O Puzzle, Wonderworld Eco-Friendly Rainbow Blocks
5.  Organic Building Blocks, Massachusetts Teether
6.  Boon Bath Toys
7.  Earnest Effort Wood Rattle
8.  Romeo and Juliet Counting Book
Pride and Predjudice Counting Book

I love the idea of eco-friendly toys and hand made toys (obviously).  Does this mean my child will never play with Barbies or other plastic toys, absolutely not. These are just some items that I think would be lovely to have upon our baby's arrival.  Learning toys, and cuddly toys.
Also, if you haven't checked out those books yet (number 8) you need to.  They are amazing! I saw them over at Modern Kiddo the other day and wanted to order them immediately!
So yeah, I hope you enjoy List 1.  I will be back later this week with List 2, which is our list of baby gear :)
Have an awesome Monday!

treasure hunting.

We were so blessed to have another awesome week of garage sale finds!
I didn't score a lot of things, but what I did score, was fantastic.
Im starting to become pretty picky with the things I buy at garage sales.  My number one rule though is that it MUST be under $5.
I usually try not to spend more than $15 each week too.
Here were my finds this week :)

1.  This adorable piggy bank! I have been trying to find the perfect one for the nursery and for a dime, this one was a MUST get :)  I love the colors so much and I love that it's an elephant.

A bag of vintage plastic horse figurines for $2.00

This adorable vintage creamer dispenser! Yeah, so no one in my house drinks coffee but for a quarter...needed it.  I will maybe put syrup in it for pancake day :)

Vintage globe...$4.

I had this record player when I was little and I loved it. 3 of the records are missing but I am on the hunt for them.  This was only a dollar and perfect for the nursery!

These were another thing that I loved as a kiddo, I have a little collection of them now for our baby so when we found this one for a quarter, it wad perfect :)

I would definitely say that this was a great day for treasure hunting.  I also picked up a ton of vintage embroidery patterns and a pretty vintage scarf but I left them in the car and didn't get a photo.
Good times were had by all!!

reupholstery: phase 1

One of my garage sale scores from today was this chair:
(I will definitely be back with the rest of my finds tomorrow :D)

The mid century modern style and shape was perfect, the price was perfect but man does this baby need some work!

I have been wanting to try my hand at reupholstering for a few months, and my dad was really excited about the idea as well.  When we saw this chair today, we knew that it would be a great project for us to do together :)
We worked for a couple of hours today taking deconstructing the chair and pulling our millions of dirty, rusty tacks...

It was really cool to see all of the vintage fabrics that were used in here.  There were at least 8 different fabric swatches that we found :)

Our next step is to find a perfect fabric to reupholster it with.
I'm not sure if I want to go with a mid century modern vintage fabric or it I want to go with a more modern-day bold print fabric?
Here are some favorites that I found here.

I can not wait to get back to work on this chair.  It's going to be such a special piece because it's something that my dad and I are doing together :)
I will definitely keep you posted on our progress.

love letters.

Sometimes I feel like if I keep working on this room, the baby will get here sooner.  Like because I'm working hard, everything else will work together faster.  Does that make sense?  I feel more like a mom when I am in this room,  or creating things for my baby.
I am so so so so ready.

Dear Baby

My dear friend Katie found this print for you and it's just perfect for your room:)

the crib is ready and waiting

These guys are all waiting for someone to love on them.

so many pretty things up above for you to look at...

new pretty things for you to wear...

books for us to read together

while we are snuggled under hand made blankets

A whole world for you to explore.
A whole world waiting for you to explore it.
You are already my whole world :)
