Amelia's New Nursery

Last Saturday, was the day I decided to do Amelia's Nursery Makeover!!  I painted the room "Lincoln's White Sash" the night before but it only took me 9 hours total to complete the entire makeover.  Besides the crib, book shelf, and changing table, everything else in the room is completely different.
Are you ready for the tour?
Here we go!

I went with a "black and white and bright" theme.  As I mentioned before, I really wanted to streamline her room and make it more practical for a little one on the move.  Less clutter, more cute.

Since I am sure I will get questions about where I purchased things, I will link the items that stand out.  I am going to link the original sources to buy each of these items.  Most of them, I got from those shops but others I bought second hand for a way cheaper price :)

Some items, like these two plushies, were things I had forever but never pulled out for Amelia because she was too little.  This was the perfect time :)

This little corner holds all of Amelia's toys and will hopefully someday be a little reading corner for her as well :)

Here is another little view if you are looking into the nursery from the door.  This gives you a better idea of placement plus it shows the amazing lamp that my sister found on clearance at Target for $4.97.  Score!

This is Amelia's little wall of art.  I hope to build on it as I find more things that I love or as she creates more art.  Most of these were prints that I had collected throughout the years for her and didn't pull out of their envelops until now :)

*  This is the start... Print (I can't remember where I got this! If you know, link me)
*  Painting by Amelia
*  Painted Spoon by me :)

Her bookshelf full of books and little special toys :)

Ok, here is the other side of the room.  Here we have her changing table area, a new chalkboard wall, and a vintage school desk that serves as a table for misc. items :)

I am in love with this curtain.  I thought it was sooo cute and perfect for Amelia and her room.  The little vintage green box was from a yard sale and holds misc things like Amelia's earring care solution, neosporin, lotion, etc.

The jars were a quick and easy DIY project with mason jars, plastic toys, and spray paint :)  Easy peasy and oh so cute!!  The large jar houses Amelia's hair bows and the other three house chalk, crayon rings and crayon gems!

Every room needs a chalkboard wall right?!  Espeically when your mom and aunt are art teachers!!  I can't wait for her to be able draw all over this wall.  It makes me so happy just thinking about it.

My sister also scored that cute chevron pouffe somewhere on ridiculous clearance and is letting us have it for the time being.  The chair is a vintage school chair, the rug is Dwell
That is it!! I am so happy with the way it turned out. I was super excited that my vision became a reality with this room in 9 short hours too!
It fits Amelia's bright little personality perfectly as well.

Thanks for checking it out :)

Super Easy Fall Decor- Pyrex Collections

One super cheap, super cute way that I decorate for the seasons is with my trusty pyrex bowls :)  The reason I love pyrex, is for the color schemes and patterns!  I also like them because they come in sets of four (different sizes) which are perfect for little groupings. Plus, you can almost always find them at thrift stores, or your grandma's house :)

Again, I want to reitterate that this is not an original idea of mine, in fact, I first got this idea from my grandma :)
So, in my house I have these bowl either sitting in groups or as a single next to other things like lamps, on a bookshelf, as a centerpiece, etc.
Here are some ideas of what you can fill your bowls with to celebrate fall :)

*  Bringing the outside, in!
We don't have any acorns yet, but I usually fill a bowl with acorns and place that bowl next to the pine cones :)

*  fall crafty items like thread (fall makes me want to sew lots of quilts)

* yarn balls or even a bowl of granny squares (would look really cute next to a crocheted pumpkin :D)

*  or buttons in fall colors like brown and gold!

Some other ideas for the bowls are:
*  apples
*  gourds
*  candy
*  leafs
*  tubes of paint in fall colors
*  what are your ideas??

I also use other things from around my house to make other little clusters and collections to celebrate fall!
Here are two of my other little fall collections that are out in my house right now!!!

I would love to see some of your fall collections.
I would also like to hear some of your ideas in the comments section.

Fall Leaf Garland DIY

For today's  project, I am going to show you two cute fall leaf inspired garlands/banners that you can make on the cheap to decorate your house for fall.
These are, in no way, original ideas, but I'm showing you what I made to decorate my little home :)

The first one here is made with real leafs!!  Although it is mostly still green here in St. Louis, there are a few trees that have started to change colors and look brilliant.
So, I went on a little walk with the husband and the pup and collected some of these lovely leaves.

Once you have your leaves, the only other supplies you will need is an exacto knife and some clothes pins (or any other type of hanging devices).

You want to do this while the leaves are still fresh.
Lay out your leaf and cut away.  You can spell out words with different letters on each leaf, or you can do a simple sentiment like I did below....

To keep them straight and looking fresh, you will need to press them in wax paper for a couple of nights :)  After that, you can use your clothes pins, etc. to hang them up in your home!!!

The second leaf garland I will show you today is made from felt embroidery floss.  You could definitely save a lot of time and energy by using a sewing machine on this one too though :)

First, you need to gather felt in your fall colors, and cut out a ton of leaf shapes.  My leafs are about 2.5 inches long.  I made an equal amount of each color so that I had 11 leaves in each color (I used yellow, gold, red, and brown for mine).

Next, use a running stitch to stitch all of you leaves together in a straight line.  It's that easy!!!

Again if you aren't sure about hand sewing it, you can always run your garland through the sewing machine, making sure that each leaf gets connected along the way.
Ta-da!!

A gorgeous felt leaf garland to hang in your home to make it that much more cozy :)
If you decided to make either of these, please post photos of them so I can see.
I can't wait to see what you create!
Also I would love to see any other cute banners/buntings/garlands that you made for the fall season!!
Have a great day!!!

Halloween Doily Decor DIY

Im not one to go all out decorating my house for Halloween.
 Just some pumpkins, a few bowls of Fall collections (check back for that post next week) and mugs of apple cider really!
I wanted to makes something cute that I could use for Halloween and after Halloween as well.
I decided to put a little DIY together for all of you.
It is soooo cute and sooo super easy!

1.  Here are the materials that you will need :)

*  embroidery hoops in various sizes
*  white doilies in various sizes
*  fabric shears
*  cheap plastic spider rings

2.  Choose a doily that is slightly bigger than your embroidery hoop and close it in :)  Make sure it's super tight!

3.  Cut off any hang over from the doily with your shears!

4.  Check out your cute spider web!! Now, add your plastic spider!  Use the ring to secure it the web.

5.  Adorable right?!!  Hang it up and enjoy!  The best part is you can detach the spider and keep them up all year!!

Let me know if you decide to make one of these adorable, cheap, and easy spider webs!!  I want to see them :)

art for amelia

I still have one blank wall in Amelia's room that needs to be filled.
I have been looking all over the online world for a few prints that I can use to make a art display for her.
Here are some of my favorites.

(with her colors and information obviously)

These are just a few and I definitely think that I need more for what I want to create in there.  There is so much amazing art out there.
Do you have any favorite prints? I would love to see some of your favorite online art pieces.
